Shareholders aren’t the only ones happy about Apple’s $9.9 billion annual dividends. After all, Uncle Sam is the one getting rich.
The quarterly dividend payments will mean up to $1.5 billion a year for federal coffers, given the current 15 percent tax rate. In comparison, the biggest Apple shareholder, mutual fund giant Fidelity, stands to collect about $519 million in annual dividend payments.
Apple also announced a plan to spend $10 billion buying its own shares in the next three years. The government would have collected far less if the firm chose to only spend its money on stock buybacks.
